[FALAJ] (or Al flaj, Qanat, khettara, foggara, kariz): name of the Oasis irrigation channels in Oman.
As per these channels, we feed each site with our creativity and expertise to create beautiful and multisensorial spaces with respect for wildlife and for people enjoyment.
A NATURALISTIC, ARTISTIC, HUMANISTIC AND SENSITIVE APPROACH
It always starts with a site. And a wish to change its usage or/and enhance it for personal or public reasons.
At Studio Falaj, we help making these changes in a well-thought manner: Comprehension of the client’s brief followed by analysis of the site in terms of History, topography, existing vegetation and usages. This leading to proposed conceptual solutions incorporating all of these parameters as well as an artistic and sensitive input as human beings and professionals experienced in the field.
The best solution being chosen together with the client, the process continues using the same attention to details up to the completion that we follow thoroughly.
Rich of work and life experiences in Europe, North Africa and Middle-East, the strength of our practice is in territories and their ecology understanding, human psychology and cultures, technical and different climates-suited planting knowledge and artistic culture.
We think that technical and financial aspects don’t have to reduce the first aspirations and ideas. Our creativity is of course in the design and also in the clients’ budget management whilst bringing effortless technical solutions to create chic, comfortable and well-crafted environments.
Once the project is completed, we emphasize on the need of a good maintenance to ensure its sustainable life.
A NEW WAY TO WORK
Our world is constantly evolving and the practice of landscape architecture with it. Boundaries disappear and our knowledge expands. New ways to communicate emerges.
At Studio Falaj, we are aware of all these changes and we aim to use them in a positive way to create a better world.
This is the reason why we continuously work in the places we know well in terms of culture, landscape, vegetation, regulations, market, language…: Germany, the UK, France, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, whilst having an artistic and global overview and being ready for new discoveries and challenges in other parts of the world.
How to organize the work at such a big scale of intervention?
Nowadays, we don’t need any more to be in the same room to be efficient thanks to the internet and the communication tools it offers. And because direct human interactions are at the centre of our interventions, especially between the client, us and the other design team members and during site supervision, we meet in person people at the key moments of the project. Professionals of our strong network are also located in these areas of the world.
